The patient arrived at the hospital’s emergency following a traumatic road accident in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, which left him with a life-threatening crush injury. The patient had spent the previous night being rushed to four different hospitals in Jodhpur, where he faced the grim reality of treatment denial or the daunting recommendation of leg amputation. His left leg had been severely mangled—most of the skin had been stripped away, the muscles torn, and bones fractured. By the time he reached Narayana Hospital, Ahmedabad, his condition was critical due to excessive blood loss and the extent of his injuries.

The medical team at Narayana Hospital, Ahmedabad led by Dr. Kinner Avashia, Consultant Orthopedics, Joint Replacement, and Trauma Surgeon, knew they were facing an uphill battle. The challenge wasn’t only about saving a limb; it was also about saving a life.”The moment we saw the patient, we understood the seriousness of the situation. We were up against time, but we were determined to fight for his limb, especially given his background as an ex-military officer. The pressure was immense, but so was our commitment,” said Dr. Avashia.Without wasting a minute, the patient was prepped for an emergency surgery. During the operation, the medical team worked tirelessly to clean the wound, stabilize the fractured bones, and reconstruct the severely damaged muscles. The first surgery was a success, giving the patient a fighting chance at both life and limb preservation.
