The case of rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal is being heard in the Supreme Court. The CBI filed a report in the Supreme Court regarding the investigation of the entire incident, the Supreme Court expressed surprise over the status report and termed it as misleading. However, the Supreme Court did not give more details saying that the disclosure of the information about what has been revealed in the report may affect the investigation. On August 9, the incident of rape and murder of a junior doctor at the RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata came to light, which was taken note of by the Supreme Court through a suo moto, and a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala, Justice Manoj Mishra started the hearing. During the hearing on Tuesday, lawyer Feroze Idulji, appearing on behalf of one of the petitioners in the High Court, claimed that the Kolkata Police had handed over only 27 minutes of footage related to the entire incident to the CBI. Later, in reply, the Chief Justice said that the disclosures made by the CBI in the report handed over to us are misleading. Telling the lawyer, the Chief Justice said that the CBI has also expressed concern about what you are saying.

Meanwhile, senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing on behalf of the Bengal government, appealed to the Supreme Court to stop the live streaming of the entire case, saying women lawyers in the chamber were receiving threats of acid attacks and rape. However, the Supreme Court rejected this argument and said that this is a matter of public interest, people should be informed about what is going on in the court. At the same time, the court said that if any lawyer is receiving threats, action will be taken against him. Meanwhile, the Bengal government issued a notification not to allow women doctors to work at night in government hospitals, which the Supreme Court criticized and said that it is the responsibility of the government to provide security to women doctors who work at night. Why can you say women can’t work at night? Why restrictions on women doctors? Women are also ready to work at night. Provide security against issuing such notifications. The Supreme Court later ordered to amend the notification.

On the other hand, the junior doctors of Kolkata, who have been on a dharna for a month, met Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and demanded the removal of top officials. Keeping this demand in mind, the Bengal government has transferred Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal, replacing him with Manoj Kumar Verma. Apart from the commissioner, four other police officers were also transferred. Also, Dr. from the position of Director of Medical Education. Kaushal Nayak and Dr. from the post of Director of Health Services. Debasis Halder was removed.
