Destruction by landslide on Kedarnath highway, 5 dead including a devotee from Gujarat, rescue and relief operations started

Five people have been killed so far in a landslide on the Kedarnath National Highway in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district. Four more bodies were found on Tuesday. All these dead were devotees who came to see God. Many people were buried under the debris in Monday’s landslide. Five bodies have been recovered so far, while three people were injured. According to the information received by the police, rescue operations had to be stopped on Monday night due to bad weather, snowfall, darkness and continuous falling of debris and stones at the scene. After which relief operations were resumed on Tuesday morning as the weather improved. Meanwhile, the bodies of four devotees, including three women, were pulled out from the debris. Police said, “The operation is still ongoing. More people are suspected to be buried under the debris of the landslide that occurred late on Monday evening near Munkatiya between Sonprayag and Gaurikund.” 50), has been identified as Titli Devi Mandal (70), resident of Vaidehi village in Dhanwa district of Nepal, Samanbai (50) resident of Jizora in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh, Bharatbhai Niralal (52) resident of Khatodara in Surat, Gujarat. Earlier on Monday night, the dead body of Gopalji (50), a resident of Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district, was recovered from the scene, while three other injured devotees were pulled out from the debris and shifted to the hospital.

Rescue and relief operations were started :

According to information, this accident happened when a group of devotees were returning after visiting Kedarnath Dham. Teams of Police, State Disaster Response Force and National Disaster Response Force reached the spot as soon as the accident was reported. After which rescue and relief operations were started immediately. Meanwhile, the road closed by the landslide has been opened for walking. Along with this, the passengers stopped at Gaurikund are being safely sent to Sonprayag. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed his condolences to the devotees who were killed in this incident.
