After heavy rains in Gujarat for the last 15 days, there is an alarming increase in the cases of mosquito-borne diseases in the state. The pestilence of mosquitoes has increased due to water filling everywhere. Talking about the big cities of the state, 688 cases have been reported in Ahmedabad, 198 cases in Vadodar, 120 cases in Rajkot and 71 cases in Surat. Due to dengue, 3 children have died due to dengue in Ahmedabad while 1 woman has died in Surat. However, 345 cases of mosquito-borne dengue were reported in Ahmedabad in the month of August. At Sola Civil, 174 dengue cases have been reported in the last one week, while in Asarwa Civil, 61 cases have been reported in five days. As far as Asarwa Civil is concerned, 23058 patients have been registered in the OPD in the last five days while 1998 patients have been admitted. There were 247 cases of dengue last month, compared to 61 cases reported in the last five days. Besides, 10 cases of malaria, 1 case of toxic malaria, 4 cases of chikungunya, 16 cases of dengue, 68 cases of viral fever have been reported in the last five days. 101 cases of malaria, 39 cases of chikungunya, 962 cases of viral fever were reported in the entire last month. Apart from this, a fifty-two-year-old woman was admitted on Friday due to swine flu. Polluted water has been found to be the cause of waterborne disease in Ahmedabad. In addition to the water supplied by the municipal corporation, 969 samples have been declared unfit among the samples taken for testing borewell water in eight months. The highest impact of polluted water has been observed in various ward areas of Central, South and East zones. Some dengue patients have low platelets count, which is considered very dangerous. A platelet count below 50,000 can be fatal. That is why diet and proper treatment are advised.
