In Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district, another landslide occurred from the Varunavat mountain amid continuous rains on Tuesday night. People were scared after hearing the sound of landslide. The noise was so strong that people ran out of their houses. Five landslides occurred in a period of 45 minutes on Varunavat Hill. Panic spread in Masjid Mohalla Jal Sansthan Colony and Gofiara area due to massive stone and debris fall. District Disaster Management Officer Devendra Patwal, Additional District Magistrate Raza Abbas, Deputy District Magistrate Brijesh Kumar Tiwari, immediately reached the District Disaster Operation Center and took stock of the situation. Varunavat Hill is located between Asi and Varuna rivers. Varunavat Hill is famous for the mythological temple and Panchkosi Varuni Yatra. In the year 2003, a devastating landslide occurred here. At that time, many high-rise buildings on Gofiara area, Tabakhani Road and Bhatwadi Road, including the mosque area on the mountain, collapsed. Large populations were then moved from danger zones to safer places. Now after almost 21 years, people are scared again due to another landslide on Varunavat mountain.
