Dalveer Singh, a 54-year-old Indian worker, died in central Italy due to extreme heat and heavy workload. Dalveer Singh was a resident of Punjab. He regularly sent remittances to his family. He intended to return to India in the next few years, as it was becoming increasingly difficult for him to work in the fields as he grew older. His son and son-in-law are now trying to bring back his body. Another Indian laborer has died in Italian farms in the last three months. Earlier, a laborer named Satnamsingh was injured and his employers ran away leaving him bleeding, due to which he died. Associates of Dalveer Singh told the Guardian that he had never been ill and was a very kind person. He was always ready to work hard. Singh passed away on 16 August. An autopsy report is expected next month. Local prosecutors continue to investigate Singh’s death. These include whether her owner took appropriate steps under Italian law to protect her from the extreme heat. In July, Italian police rescued Indian farm workers from slavery-like conditions in central Italy. The passports of these laborers were taken away and they were forced to work in very poor conditions. was He died after suffering a severe hand injury in an accident, leaving his owner bleeding to death. Thousands of such people are working in Italy’s farms, picking or harvesting everything from tomatoes to other crops. Italy has been facing an extreme heatwave since mid-June.
