Bhuj: Big Rohatad village under Ratdia group gram panchayat near Khawda of taluka has caused a panic in the health department with the death of four children in ten days due to water borne epidemic. Seven more people have fallen ill. Out of which two children and one woman are under treatment at GK General Hospital in Bhuj. A wave of fear has spread in the village due to the death of four children in ten days. Children were suffering from diarrhea and vomiting as water was distributed for drinking from the Bandi Dam near the village and the water was dirty. Among the children who fell victim to the disease in Boti Rohatal village are Saibha Kayumkarim Sama (age 6) of 20th, Jasmibai Rasid Sama Umar (age 3) of 26, Mod Shireek Sama (age 3) of 27 and Wasim Abdul Karim Sama (A.W.3) passed away. While still four children and one woman and one elderly are under treatment in Bhuj. Village sarpanch J.A.Sama said that drinking water is distributed from the Bandi dam near the village, which is dirty, and the members of a single family, especially small children, were victims in the village of Big Rohatal. Three children, including a girl child, have died in the last ten days. While other children and women of the family as well as the elderly are under treatment. As soon as this was reported, the teams of the local health department have been dispatched for the survey. Ratdia group under Gram Panchayat submitted to Health Commissioner Gujarat besides District Health Officer, alleging that locals are not getting treatment in Khawda CHC due to absence of doctor at night. Patients around have nocturnal convulsions. Permanent doctors should be appointed in the CHC at Dinara and those who are not present in the surrounding PHCs and CHCs should be kept present. It has been demanded that teams be sent from the state level to investigate the cause of the epidemic in Moti Rohatad village. It has also been demanded that adequate stock of medicine should be kept in Khawda CHC.
