Expert Session on Cyber Security Held at JG University: Empowering Future Professionals in a Rapidly Expanding Field

Ahmedabad : JG University, a leading institution known for academic excellence and innovative education, successfully hosted an Expert Session on Cyber Security. Organized for students from the School of Science & Technology, the session aimed to provide crucial knowledge and skills in the rapidly expanding field of cybersecurity.The session was conducted by Mr. Heera Meghwal, a renowned cybersecurity specialist for India & SAARC at Tenable, who shared his extensive experience in the industry. With cyber threats becoming increasingly sophisticated, Mr. Meghwal discussed critical areas such as threat detection, incident response, ethical hacking, and the need for robust security protocols in the digital age.

According to the World Economic Forum, India faces a shortage of over 800,000 cybersecurity professionals, while globally, the shortfall is over four million professionals. Despite these challenges, India’s cybersecurity market continues to grow at an annual rate of 25% since 2019, crossing the USD 6 billion mark in 2023. The need for skilled professionals is underscored by projections of global cybersecurity spending reaching USD 200 billion in 2024. The industry in India employs around 300,000 professionals as of 2023, but the demand for experts continues to rise rapidly.

Dr. Achyut Dani, Director General & Provost at JG University, emphasized the importance of equipping students with industry-relevant knowledge, stating, “This session is part of our ongoing commitment to providing students with the skills they need to succeed in the cybersecurity sector. With the rapid growth of cyber threats globally, it is essential that our students are prepared to meet these challenges.”The students were highly engaged in the session, particularly during the interactive Q&A segment, where they discussed real-world cybersecurity scenarios and gained valuable advice from the expert. Mr. Meghwal encouraged students to continuously update their knowledge and stay current with the latest technologies and emerging threats, stressing the growing opportunities in the cybersecurity field.
