Restrictions on rice exports lifted : Will send supplies to country : Good news for farmers

The central government has started lifting restrictions on rice exports last year. Recently it has allowed limited quantity of rice to be exported to selected countries. The Malaysian government has requested the Indian government to export rice to meet its food needs. As a result, farmers are likely to get good prices for paddy this year. India has allowed the export of 10,34,800 tonnes of non-basmati rice to meet the food needs of seven countries. These countries include Nepal, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, Malaysia, Philippines, and Seychelles. According to a notification issued by the DGFT, export of 2 lakh tonnes of non-basmati rice to Malaysia has been allowed. Earlier in October, 2023, Malaysia was allowed to export 1.70 lakh tonnes of non-basmati rice. Recently, Malaysian Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Bin Ibrahim came to New Delhi on a political visit. At that time, Malaysia demanded rice. The largest export of non-basmati rice from India is to the African country of Benin. Then it is exported to many countries including UAE, Nepal, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Somalia, Liberia. India accounts for 40 percent of the world’s total rice exports. Rice production is expected to rise this year due to bumper planting of rice in the kharif season. According to the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, 369.05 hectares of paddy has been planted in the country till August 20 for Kharif season 2024. Which is 20 hectares more than last year.
