The four-lane Sultanganj-Aguwani bridge over the Ganga river in Bihar’s Bhagalpur collapsed for the third time on Saturday. No casualties were reported in this accident. The section between Pillar No. 9 and 10 from Sultanganj towards Anwani Ghat was submerged in the river Ganga on Saturday. This bridge is being constructed by SP Singla Company. This bridge is being constructed in Sultanganj of Bhagalpur district to connect Khagadia and Bhagalpur districts. Video footage of a part of the bridge collapsing is going viral on social media, with locals watching the bridge collapse from a safe distance. In the video, some people are also heard saying that the bridge collapsed once again. It may be noted that earlier on June 4, 2023, the entire superstructure above the foundation No. 10, 11, 12 of the Sultanganj-Aguwani bridge collapsed, which was a part of about 200 meters. Two guards on duty on the bridge also went missing after the accident. Apart from this, on April 27, 2022, a superstructure of this under-construction bridge collapsed in the river. A section about 100 feet long collapsed like a house of cards in the fierce storm and rain. However, even then there was no loss of life or property. Bhagalpur-Sultanganj Aguvani Bridge is an important project of Bihar government connecting North and South Bihar. The initial valuation of this project is Rs. 1710.77 crores. CM Nitish Kumar laid the foundation stone of the project on 23 February 2014. Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Tejashwi Yadav claimed that a committee of experts from IIT Roorkee had verified the structure of the bridge. He claimed that the design of the bridge’s foundation and superstructure was flawed. But CM Nitish Kumar doesn’t care.
