AHMEDABAD | OCTOBER 2026: Every cricketer has a story beyond the runs scored, the matches won and the trophies lifted. For Parthiv Patel, that story spans an early entry into the Indian dressing room, lessons in resilience, the pressure of team selection and the relationships that stay long after a match ends.

These memories and experiences came alive on Decoded with Chandni Kapadia, hosted by Ms. Chandni Kapadia, Executive Director of GLS University, where the former Indian cricketer and Gujarat Titans Assistant Coach looked back at the moments that shaped his journey. From making his India debut at just 17 to sharing a dressing room with cricketing legends, Parthiv recalled the nerves of being the youngest player among established stars. He shared how senior players, including Sachin Tendulkar, helped him feel welcome. He also spoke about losing part of his little finger in an accident as a child, and how he continued playing cricket without letting it define his abilities.Reflecting on his retirement in 2020 at the age of 35, Parthiv spoke about reaching a point of contentment rather than regret. “I’m grateful from where I was and where I am right now,” he said, capturing the perspective he gained over nearly two decades in the game. The conversation also explored the complexities of identifying and nurturing cricketing talent. Parthiv explained that selecting a player goes beyond statistics, with attitude, game awareness, temperament and the ability to perform under pressure playing equally important roles. Drawing from his experience with Gujarat Titans, he highlighted how trust, freedom and collective effort contribute to building a strong team.Beyond the game, Parthiv shared stories of friendships that grew out of on-field rivalries, including his bond with Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden. The lighter segments, ‘Who’s More Likely To?’, ‘One Name, One Story’ and ‘Decode the Moment’, brought out candid memories and personal insights involving several well-known names from cricket. The episode also revisited Parthiv’s association with GLS, where he had played inter-school cricket and participated as a guest player. Reflecting on the importance of nurturing young sporting talent, he spoke about the relevance of sports management education and the qualities required to succeed in competitive sport. As the conversation came to a close, Parthiv summed up his journey with a simple phrase: “Memories unfolded.” The episode offered a glimpse into the experiences, relationships and lessons behind a career that went far beyond the scoreboard.Through Decoded with Chandni Kapadia, GLS University continues to create a platform for meaningful conversations with personalities from diverse fields, bringing audiences closer to the stories and experiences that shape their journeys.
