Amdavad Municipal Corporation intensified its drive against property tax defaulters on Saturday, sealing 5,490 properties across seven zones of Ahmedabad in a single day and recovering ₹5.49 crore in outstanding tax. The civic body has also introduced an interest waiver scheme valid until March 31, encouraging property owners to clear their pending dues. The West Zone recorded the highest action, where 3,167 properties were sealed, leading to a recovery of ₹1.24 crore.
In the Central Zone, including areas such as Meghaninagar and New Cloth Market, authorities sealed 405 properties and recovered ₹1.11 crore.In the North Zone, including properties at Sumel Business Park, 333 properties were sealed, resulting in the recovery of ₹33 lakh.
In the South Zone, 89 properties were sealed, and ₹41 lakh in taxes was collected. In the East Zone, 633 properties across different estates were sealed, leading to a recovery of ₹73 lakh from defaulters. In the North-West Zone, 382 properties were sealed, and ₹1.20 crore was recovered, while in the South-West Zone, 481 properties were sealed, resulting in a recovery of ₹47 lakh in pending property tax.
Overall, from February 1 to March 7, the civic authorities have sealed more than 16,000 properties across the city to recover outstanding property tax dues.
