A chilling incident came to light on Tuesday in Surat’s upscale Althan, where a married woman allegedly jumped from the 14th floor of a residential building along with her minor son.
The child died on the spot, while the woman sustained critical injuries and is battling for her life.
According to initial information, the woman who lives in a high-rise building in the Althan area, took the extreme step for reasons that are yet unknown.
She reportedly jumped from the 14th floor holding her son. Residents rushed out after hearing a loud thud.
The severe impact of the fall resulted in the minor boy’s death, while the woman, who suffered serious injuries, was shifted to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Doctors have described her condition as extremely critical.
 On receiving information about the incident, local police rushed to the spot and initiated legal proceedings. The child’s body has been sent for postmortem examination.
Police have registered a case and begun a preliminary investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the incident. Family members are being questioned to ascertain the reasons behind the woman’s drastic step.
