
Megh Meher has been continuing in Surat city for the last three days. Today (September 19) there was heavy rain in various areas of the city. As if a cloud had burst, Limbayat received four and a half inches of rain in one hour and six inches in 3 hours, creating a water-bomb situation. Water has entered people’s houses in Asha Nagar, opposite the Rajunagar police station in the city. Many areas are knee-deep in water. Other areas also received one to two inches of rain, although not a single drop of rain fell towards Dumas. Surat receives an average of 57 inches of rain during the season. But so far this year, 81.68 inches of rain has fallen. Thus, more than 135 percent of the rainfall has been reduced. The Meteorological Department had predicted rain in the entire South Gujarat including Surat today, according to which clouds were seen in Surat, Vadodara and Bharuch. Rain was recorded in 34 talukas of the state between 6 am and 4 am. The highest average rainfall was recorded in Bharuch’s Vagra at 3.78 inches and the lowest was recorded in Sankheda of Chhota Udepur at 1 mm. People who were suffering from the heat and storm for the last few days got relief from the rain, but people who went out for work had to face hardship due to the sudden rain. After the storm and heat in the morning, there was a sudden change in the weather in the afternoon. Due to heavy rain, rain was recorded in areas like Piplod, Athwa, Gadumas Road, Varachha, and Citylight in the city. Due to heavy rains, water was flowing on the roads and visibility was also reduced, due to which motorists had to face great difficulty in movement. Many motorists were forced to stop on the side of the road until the rain stopped. Traffic was disrupted due to rainwater filling up the main service roads like Udhna three roads. Many vehicles were stopped due to waterlogging, due to which motorists and pedestrians had to face great hardship.
