On Sunday, a huge ruckus broke out in Jama Masjid in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh as people angry over the survey pelted stones at the police. The police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd. The police also said that four people were killed and a total of 20 people were injured in the firing and stone-pelting during this violence.

Rahul Gandhi attacks BJP:
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has targeted the state and central governments on this matter. He wrote on X, ‘The biased and hasty attitude of the state government on the recent controversy in Uttar Pradesh Sambhal is very unfortunate. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the violence and firing.’ Regarding this, Rahul Gandhi further wrote, ‘The action taken by the administration without listening to all parties and the insensitivity worsened the atmosphere and many people died – for which the BJP government is directly responsible. BJP’s use of power is to create discrimination between Hindu-Muslim society. They are not working in the interest of the state or the country.’ Rahul Gandhi further said, ‘I request the Supreme Court to intervene in this matter at the earliest and do justice. My appeal is to maintain peace and mutual harmony. We all have to work together to ensure that India moves forward on the path of unity and constitution, not communalism and hatred.’ In view of the increased tension after the violence in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh, internet services have been shut down in Sambhal tehsil. Also, all schools up to class 12 have been ordered to remain closed on Monday. Apart from this, a prohibitory order has been imposed in the district under Indian Judicial Code 163 till November 30. Under which the entry of outsiders into the district will be banned till November 30.
