The results of the by-elections held in two very important Lok Sabha seats in the country have been declared today. In which the Wayanad seat in Kerala is very important. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi has contested from the Wayanad seat. While Satyan Mokeri of the Left Front (CPI) and Navya Haridas of the BJP are contesting against her. In such a situation, Priyanka is currently ahead by 85,533 votes.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s entry into politics:
Priyanka Gandhi has entered politics through this election. If Priyanka Gandhi wins the election, it will be the first time that all the members of the Gandhi family, i.e. Sonia Gandhi, Rahul and Priyanka, will become members of Parliament. This is the first election for Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. There are 7 assembly seats under the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat. These include Mananthavady (Reserved), Sultan Bathery (Reserved), Kalpetta, Thiruvambady in Kozhikode district and Nilambur, Iranad and Vandoor in Malappuram district.
Elections held after Rahul Gandhi’s resignation, leaving Wayanad seat :
This seat fell vacant after Rahul Gandhi’s resignation. Rahul Gandhi had left Wayanad seat after winning Rae Bareli seat in the Lok Sabha elections held in April-May. Due to which a by-election was held on this vacant seat.
How many candidates contested the election?
16 candidates, including Priyanka, have contested the election in Wayanad. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is the United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate from Wayanad seat. While facing her are Satyan Mokeri, the candidate of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM)-led Left Democratic Front, and Navya Haridas, the candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The BJP fielded Navya Haridas against Priyanka. She is the state general secretary of the BJP Mahila Morcha. She has also been a two-time councilor in the Kozhikode Municipal Corporation and a BJP councilor party leader. She also contested from the Kozhikode South seat in the 2021 assembly elections, but lost. This time, about 65 percent voting was recorded in Wayanad. When Rahul Gandhi was contesting from here in April, 74 percent voting was recorded. At the same time, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, more than 80 percent voting was recorded here.
